We all need to do our bit, more especially in a world where gender-based violence has become a endemic and poverty remains a reality for many of the population. Children from vulnerable situations often find themselves entering the world with little hope of a future. Those at risk have very little control over their circumstances, often being easy prey to predators and abuse. In the past, Studio 88 recognised Legacy House Childrens Home as a well-managed and much needed non-profit home that offers long-term support to young girls in need. This Women’s Month, Studio 88 pledges to donate R10 to the Children’s Home for every purchase made online – and you too can do your bit by simply purchasing your favourite Brands from our ecommerce store.
Legacy Children’s Home is a safe haven for vulnerable girl children. It’s run and managed under the Women Empowerment Platform (DSD Registration No. 254-421). The House focuses on providing neglected and abused girls a haven where they can grow and reach their true potential. The care and support is from infancy to teenage, offering post matric support in learnerships and higher education.
Founded in 2022 the sole purpose of the house is to offer a safe, nurturing haven for girls for girls entering the home from birth to six years old. The ethos sets to focus on foundational early childhood development to their young adulthood years. Girls in the care of Legacy House are welcomed into a true homely environment where they enjoy personal attention from qualified house mothers, enjoy nutritious meals, experience one-on-one therapy from an on-site qualified social worker and appointed psychologists. The young girls then have access to career opportunities not normally within their reach. The house is fully licensed as an orphanage and has capacity for up to 40 girls in care.
“As an NPO, we’re fully reliant on our donors to ensure we provide the very best for our girls,” said board member and Studio 88 Group Head of Marketing, Ryno Du Plessis. “Our kids get access to the best education and best medical facilities which is extremely important to us considering that they often come to us severely neglected, malnourished, and sickly.
